Email

This is an update to the previously reported problem causing email sent to customers' addresses to be bounced. A copy of the original announcement can be seen here:-

Our network engineers have identified a mail database problem that occurred at approximately late this morning and caused email sent to customers' addresses to bounce with a 550 relay error if sent between.

We have now firewalled our mail delivery servers and are queuing email destined for customers' mailbox on our mxlast servers. This means that email will now be queuing against our servers for later delivery as opposed to getting bounced.

This is a temporary measure and whilst it has proved successful for the vast majority of email, we would like to advise customers that there are isolated cases where their email may still get bounced.

Iin order to rectify the problem experienced this morning we are in the process of restoring the database from a backup. Once this restoration is complete we will be ensuring that any changes made to customers' mailbox configurations after the backup was taken are replicated to the database.

No mailbox configuration changes are currently being implemented although they will be queued and processed once the above work is completed.

The above work is anticipated to be completed within an hour, however the queued email is likely to take longer to deliver. New email should be delivered in a timely fashion once the problem is resolved.

We will provide a further update later on this evening.

Kind Regards,

Bob Pullen
