Reports of Spam Email (42837) - UPDATE
Posted on: Saturday 19 May 2007, 20:03
This is an update to the previously reported issue regarding the increased volume of unsolicited email being sent to some customers' mailboxes. A copy of the last update can be seen here:-

We are pleased to confirm, that following extensive security and penetration testing, our new Webmail service is now available for customer use.
Following the withdrawal of our Webmail service on Wednesday, we have been working around the clock to build a replacement platform for our customers. As announced previously, this temporary solution will be based upon the popular SquirrelMail Webmail software. We are already familiar with the SquirrelMail as it is in use by our Metronet customers.
We are fully confident that the platform is secure and we have been working closely with BT Security teams to make this so.
At present the Webmail service is only available from the address:
http://webmail.plus.net
We are currently working on making it available from the link on the portal and will post a further update once this is complete.
Some customers may notice that some email viewed via Webmail has a sent date of 1970. This is due to the senders' mail system creating a malformed mail header and is should not be of course for concern.
SquirrelMail will be a temporary solution while we assess other options but we would envisage using this solution for approximately 6 months.
We still plan to issue the full incident report on Tuesday 22nd May.
Kind Regards,
Dave Tomlinson
