Following on from the sustained periods of rainfall in various areas of the country, BT have updated their MBORC announcement (Matters Beyond Our Reasonable Control). Due to the nature of the Broadband Infrastructure in the United Kingdom, it is susceptible to extreme weather conditions, such as flooding.
Our Support Team continues to deal with a high volume of faults being caused by the adverse weather conditions and we would like to politely remind our customers, that owing to this there may be extended waiting times on fault tickets. BT are also struggling to get engineer resource to these affected areas. Their statement is as follows:
Due to the continuing exceptionally severe weather we have been experiencing, we have been urgently assessing the impact of the flooding in central and western England on our operations.
The flooding is causing network damage, leading to very high fault volumes. At the same time many areas are still out of reach because of road closures which means it is taking longer than usual to fix each fault. With effect from 10am on Tuesday 24th July 2007, BT Wholesale declares the exceptionally severe weather and associated flooding as a matter beyond our reasonable control ("MBORC") event. The following locations are covered in this declaration:
Reading
Maidenhead
Guildford
Basingstoke
Oxford
Shrewsbury and Hereford
Worcester
Gloucester
Swindon
The following specific towns are also covered by MBORC:
Aylesbury
Abingdon
Bicester
Witney
These latest MBORC declarations are in addition to those still in force in the Yorkshire area. As a reminder the areas still covered by the MBORC declaration of Wednesday 27th June 2007 are:
Lincoln
Barnsley
Sheffield
York
We have additional resource drafted into all affected areas to help keep service levels as constant as possible however access restrictions are severely limiting our ability to complete work in these locations. The weather outlook for the rest of the week continues to be very unsettled which may delay the return to normal service.
Kind Regards,
James Bailey
