Incoming Email Delays (46136) - UPDATE

Email

This is an update to the previously reported problem causing intermittent delays in the arrival of customers' email. A copy of the original announcement can be found here:-
http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1188989890.htm

Since the original service announcement, the queues on the mail platform have reduced to less than 5000 messages. The email that remains is almost entirely made up of failed delivery reports which are expected to clear down as they expire. There is the potential for isolated emails to still filter through however spot checks on the remaining messages in the queue support the assumption that the email left is undeliverable. This is also consistent with the fact that no legitimate email has been dequeued since midday when the queues had decreased to these levels.

We are continuing to investigate a problem with the one of the spam process on our inbound mail servers. It appears that this is failing intermittently when the platform is busy. This is not normally a problem as the process is retried until successful, however we have identified an issue where this is not always happening. Whilst this is a very irregular occurrence it does have the potential to cause delays in the arrival of some customers' email

We have developed a fix for the problem that is scheduled to be deployed tomorrow.

We would like to apologise for the continued inconvenience and will provide another update tomorrow.

Kind Regards,

Bob Pullen
