Maintenance Window:-
Monday 17th September - single mail delivery server updated.
Tuesday 18th September - mx.last secondary mail delivery servers updated.
Thursday 20th September - mx.core primary mail delivery servers updated.

Service Affected:-
Email.

Duration of expected customer impact:-
No significant customer impact is expected.

Detailed description of work to be performed:-
Throughout next week we will be conducting extended maintenance across our inbound mail delivery platform. These changes are intended to enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the service, reduce the volume of spam accepted my the mail platform and eliminate the occasional delays that have been acknowledged in the Service Status posting here:-
http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1189526621.htm

This will be achieved by:

* Optimising the mail server configuration.
* Optimising spam and virus processes to free up disk resource.
* Improving the blocking of hosts without reverse DNS entries.
* Improving the blocking of email originating from dynamic IP addresses.
* Modifying the virus/spam processes to prevent messages from becoming 'stuck' in our mail delivery queues.

Expected customer impact:-
Little customer impact is anticipated as a result of this work. The changes have been all been peer-reviewed, raised via the appropriate channels and where possible tested in a non-live environment. The upgrades will first be performed on a single mail delivery server and tested thoroughly, before being rolled out to the remainder of the platform. There is the potential for small email delays to occur whilst each server is removed from service to have the upgrades applied, however these delays will be kept to a minimum.
