Posted on: Tuesday 9 October 2007, 17:21
Maintenance Window:-
Wednesday 10th October 7:00am-8:30am.
Service Affected:-
Email.
Duration of expected customer impact:-
No customer impact is expected.
Detailed description of work to be performed:-
The problems identified yesterday have now been resolved and we will be reintroducing the ACL rules to defer email sent to customers from hosts with no rDNS entries:-
http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1191864188.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_control_list
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_DNS_lookup
In addition to the ACL change, we will also be optimising the log rotation process on each of the servers and making a configuration change to help resolve a single user issue.
Expected customer impact:-
No customer impact is expected as a result of the log rotation or single user problem fixes. The ACL changes will see email sent to customers from mail servers with no rDNS deferred with a temporary error. Tomorrow morning this will be rolled out to our back-up mail delivery servers only. We will then monitor the platform with a view to extending the changes the the primary servers on Thursday.
Other Notes:-
As always we welcome discussion surrounding this topic over on our Community Site forums:-
