Planned Broadband Platform Maintenance - Wednesday 24th October 12:00am-7:00am
ADSL Dial
Posted on: Tuesday 23 October 2007, 13:26
Maintenance Window:-
Wednesday 24th October 12:00am-7:00am.
Service Affected:-
Broadband Connectivity.
Duration of expected customer impact:-
Approximately 7 hours.
Detailed description of work to be performed:-
We will be moving two of our broadband gateways (ptn-ag1/ptn-ag2) and their corresponding Ellacoya switches to another suite in our Telehouse North data centre in London. The new suite has improved power management facilities, better cooling and allows us to consolidate other data suites. As part of this work BT will also be re-pointing two of our central pipes (PlusNet 2 & PlusNet 3) to the relocated routers in the new data suite.
Shortly after midnight we will disconnect all users connected to the gateway ptn-ag1. These customers should be able to reconnect almost immediately as we estimate there will be sufficient capacity across the remainder of the network. ptn-ag1 and a single Ellacoya switch will then be moved to the new data suite. Once the gateway is in position BT will need to re-splice their central fibre across to the new suite. These steps will then be repeated for the gateway known as ptn-ag2.
Following completion of this work, further disconnections may be necessary in order to restore a consistent balance across the gateways on the network. Should these disconnections need to be scheduled outside of the maintenance window then further details will be posted nearer the time.
Expected customer impact:-
Customers connected to the gateways known as ptn-ag1 and ptn-ag2 will be disconnected from the Internet during the maintenance window. Customers on other gateways may also suffer a brief disconnection should it be deemed necessary in order to restore balance to the network following this work.
Whilst each of the gateways is taken out of service customers may experience slower speeds on lower priority protocols such as Peer-2-Peer and Binary Usenet.
Some customers may have difficulties re-establishing a connection once this maintenance has been completed or may be presented with a BT Wholesale service information page when trying to connect. These customer are advised to power down their equipment for 30 minutes before attempting to reconnect.
