Planned Anti-spam Maintenance - Thursday 24th January 6:00am-7:00am

Email

Posted on: Wednesday 23 January 2008, 17:40

Maintenance Window:-
Thursday 24th January 6:00am-7:00am.

Service Affected:-
Email.

Duration of expected customer impact:-
Approximately 5 minutes.

Detailed description of work to be performed:-
We will be making a number of configuration changes to improve the spam scoring mechanism used for customers on the new Postini anti-spam platform. A summary of these changes is as follows:

* Implement spam tagging based on category scoring - This will make use of the category scores under the x-pstn-settings header. These scores are found in brackets and are labelled 'R', 'P', 'M' & 'C'. A score below 85.0 in any of these categories will result in the message being labelled as [-SPAM-].

* Increase spam score where X-neptune: qtine header is present - The presence of this header will increase the X-pn-pstn spam score by one eg. from 'Spam 2' (less likely to be spam) to 'Spam 1' (more likely to be spam). This will result in more email being tagged as [-SPAM-] where this header is present.

* Add additional header information to white-listed emails - Where a sender's address is white-listed the x-pstn-addresses header will be marked (org good) or (user good). We will also be reinstating the previously stripped spam scoring headers for these emails.

* Add additional header information to messages that have passed via our relay servers - An additional header will be added to all emails sent via our relay servers. In conjunction with the change above, this will allow us to better identify legitimate email originating from our customers.

* Alter the rules surrounding the use of the x-pstn-2strike header - This header will effectively be ignored and any email containing it will be scored using other criteria.

Expected customer impact:-
Email delivery may be delayed by up to 5 minutes during the maintenance window.

Other Notes:-
This announcement supercedes an earlier post which should now be disregarded as it contains inaccurate timings:-
