Planned primary mail storage maintenance - Friday 9th October 22.30pm-6.00am
Posted on: Thursday 8 October 2009, 10:12
When's this work happening?
On Friday night, 9th October.
What does it affect?
Email collection, email delivery and access to our Webmail service.
How long will it take?
About eight hours.
What does the work involve?
As part of the ongoing migration of services to a new data centre, we need to move the live mail storage platform. Due to the customer-impact associated with this move, we have taken the decision to conduct the work over the weekend when the mail platform is at its quietest.
Is it likely to cause problems?
Yes, inbound email delivery will be switched off at 10.30pm which means that you will not receive any email until delivery is resumed between 3.30am and 5.00am Saturday morning. Email collection will also be unavailable from 11.00pm until 3.30am Saturday morning, which means that attempts to collect email will result in error messages, timeouts or username and password errors. You will not be able to access Webmail whilst email collection is down and holding pages will be in place.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Once email collection and delivery is resumed there will be a backlog of email to process so customers should expect several hours of delayed email. We would like to assure customers that no email sent to them whilst the platform is out of service will be lost. Instead it will all be queued for delivery once the platform's back in service. We plan on carrying out a similar piece of work on Saturday night however this affects our secondary storage platform and as such shouldn't be customer affecting.
Kind Regards,
Bob Pullen
